In 2023 we focused on longer, slower trips. That led to less total flying than in pre-Covid years, but given our points build up, let us book premium economy or business class flights for all our trans-Atlantic travel. 2023 was also a year focused on wine, with visits to areas in Italy, France, Spain, and Oregon. Some stats:
- 4 countries visited: return trips to Italy, Spain, and France, plus our first trip to the Seychelles (which included quite a few hours in Qatar…).
- 6 US states visited: return trips to New York, Florida, Illinois, Virginia, and Oregon wine country, plus Eric’s first visit to Wisconsin
- 51k total air miles on Qatar (business class), Iberia (business class), SAS (premium economy), American, and Southwest.
Memorable moments:
- January: after four years, a return to San Diego
- February: quick trip to Disney World in Orlando, FL
- April: a quick weekend trip to Richmond, VA, as we mourned Pasha
- May: exploring northern Italy – we loved Lake Garda and Verona, and we learned a lot about the surrounding wine regions
- July: our traditional month of family-time on Long Island
- August: time with friends in Wisconsin, then family time in Chicago
- September: watching South Africa at a Rugby World Cup match in France, then exploring the Castilla y León wine region of Spain
- November: an epic trip to the Seychelles with lots of hiking and snorkeling
- December: Long weekend wine tasting in Oregon with friends
