2012 Books: April

All That Lives Must Die
I read the first book in the Mortal Coils series last year on our trip to Thailand and was waiting for a good time to break open the sequel. The story centers around twins who find out they are the product of immortal and infernal parents. Once again, the writing and action is fully entertaining and I really liked the main characters foray into private school and discovering their powers. My main concern about recommending this series is that while the third book has been written, no publisher has picked it up. It would be a shame not to keep this five book series going.

The Descendents
I saw the movie just before I read the book, so I feel pretty qualified to say that both are very close in content. It took me a little while to get into the narrative style but ultimately I enjoyed the book from Matt’s perspective. Grieving husband feeling insecure about taking care of his daughters and discovering more about his wife after she was lying in a coma than he seemed to know about her while she was animated. Having been to Hawaii, I could also picture the beaches and scenery as the lifestyle there is a secondary character. Good beach read.
