Madrid: Hyatt Regency Hesperia Madrid
We had a nice quiet room at the end of the hallway that faced an inner courtyard, which was perfect for sleeping. The bathroom was a good size, but the frosted glass door was a bit weird. Thankfully they had a shade… and the shower had doors! The large bed was comfy and featured multiple outlets plus USB on both sides, a nice touch.
Check-in was quite friendly and helpful and the bar staff were accommodating. Leandra was able to borrow a wine opener and get a bucket of ice for the room (hielo, por favor!).
Lastly, the location was good for us. We decided to walk the 10 minutes from the end of the airport line, which meant no subway transfers. There are lots of restaurants in the vicinity and a small Carrefour Express on the corner.

Our room (an accessibility double) was good size and located at the end of the hallway. Unfortunately, it was right next to the housekeeping supply closet so a bit noisy after 8am. The bed was fine and otherwise, our room was quiet and dark, so we slept well.
There were several parts of our stay that were a little weird:
- The much advertised pool is tiny with people sunbathing next to the bar?! Also, the pool is only open from 12 noon to 7pm, which is weird. Bar and restaurant seating takes up much of the rooftop space during that time, and all of it after 7pm.
- There was no coffee (or kettle) in the room, but there was a machine in the lobby (until 10:15a). No milk/cream available.
- Leandra noticed some chilled cava and glasses at reception during our brisk check-in but we were never offered a glass. She inquired about it later and the lady was like, “oh, you want a welcome drink?” so it pays to ask if you want bubbles.
On the plus side, we both used the small gym on 11th floor, and when asking for ice at the bar, got the largest bucket of ice on the whole trip!
The surrounding neighborhood was pleasant – lots of trees and small parks, not too noisy, several grocery options and decent number of restaurants nearby. Our view was of an open lot covered in rubble but at least it wasn’t an active construction site!
