On our way back home from New York we stopped for a night with our friends in Lancaster, PA. After unpacking the car, they took us to Lititz to check out some breweries and local shops. Downtown was lively on a warm Saturday afternoon with lots of people out and about.
Our first stop was the Bulls Head Public House which had the De Garre triple on draft! We also split a basket of fries and sausage rolls in puff pastry which took a while to come out of the kitchen. Bulls Head is a good replica of an English pub inside with standing and sitting options. Plus Miss Pearl in the men’s bathroom. IYKYK.
We walked up the street to check out a cheese/meat shop, then stopped in for chocolate at the Wilbur chocolate store – it smelled so good! Came home with chocolate pretzels and Dutch-processed cocoa powder.
Ready for another beer, our next stop was Collusion Tap Works. This time I got the Passion Project, lightly tart with some passion fruit, while Leandra ordered the Gnomish Intentions, a Belgian Strong Ale.
Our next stop, Fetish Brewing Company, was located in a new complex outside of town. The dark interior featured lots of metal gears and a hi-fi vinyl system – Leandra chose an Amy Winehouse record to play. I tried their tart lager and Leandra had the elderflower cider.
Before dinner, we stopped at Lancaster Cupcakes to pick up some dessert. I chose the s’mores (the interior filling was great) and Leandra chose the peanut butter cup – both were delicious.
Our friends had made reservations at the Horse Inn in Lancaster, PA, for dinner. We were seated promptly near a talented jazz ensemble and started our meal with cocktails – a Manhattan for Leandra and the Fulton Street sour for me (cherry had a light licorice note). The chicken and peaches fettuccine had good flavor overall but needed a little more chicken and some of the noodles were stuck together. Leandra got the beef tips with onions and mushrooms – cooked perfectly to medium rare.
The next morning we enjoyed a gloriously greasy breakfast at Gracie’s on West Main.
As usual, we had a great time in Pennsylvania, and look forward to our next visit!
