Scotland 2013: food & drink in Callender and Stirling

The Lade Inn — We were only in this area for one night, so when we found out that this place not only had good food and their own beers on draft (thanks RateBeer!), but live music on Saturday nights, we were sold. This is a fairly large place and very popular on the weekends. We managed to snag a table without reservations and get our orders in before the kitchen closed for the night. My smoked salmon appetizer was tasty and Eric’s steak pie smelled delicious from across the table. I ended the meal with the sausage plate and there was enough mashed potatoes to feed an entire family!

Brea — Thanks to Yelp we were able to narrow down the choices in Spiling for dinner before ending up at the airport hotel on Sunday night. Restaurants close early around here and while we were finishing up our meal around 7:30pm, the waitstaff was turning people away from the open door. We each got a burger and a local beer. No photos of the food because we ate everything so quickly! :) Definitely a tasty place to stop in if you are passing through.

Brea (good burgers and beer)

We also walked around a bit in Spiling to possibly have a drink somewhere but all of the bars either had not-so-great live music or a much younger vibe than we were willing to tolerate. We didn’t find any cozy pubs on our exploring, so perhaps we need to do a bit more research for next time.
