Lake Bled is probably the most famous part of Slovenia, and a very touristed town – and for a good reason, the views!

We managed to have great weather for the two days we stayed in Bled, so plenty of opportunity to get some iconic photos of the very picturesque castle on the hill and Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the center of the lake.
On our second afternoon, we did the complete 10km walk around the lake. It took us about 1:45h total and the best views were from the western side.

On our first night we visited one restaurant, and the second night tried a wine bar in town, otherwise we ate meals in our apartment.
Old Cellar Bled was our choice for dinner. It’s a huge place and we were able to get a table inside without a reservation (outside had a long waiting list). Eric ordered the Pljukanci (plukanci) with beef (like a beef stew with pasta and sundried tomatoes, very nice) and I ordered two dishes: the truffle gnocchi and the beef carpaccio with truffle cream and a mini rocket salad on top. The gnocchi with fresh truffles shaved on top was delish but a bit one note after several bites.

We also got to try some more Slovenian wines. Eric went with a šipon verus (quite full bodied, enjoyed as much as the one he had in Maribor) and a zelen cuk (green, lots of herbal notes, like a Greek wine with a medium body). I tried two different Pinot Noirs, the cuc modri and a sanctum (my fave so far).
On our second day we stopped into Vinoteka Zdravljica for an aperitivo (and to rest our feet after walking around the lake). Eric got a traminer and I had a glass of merlot. We credit this place for our introduction to the Slovenian snack of peanut better filled pretzel sticks!
