On our first night we wanted to try momo dumplings, so we chose Thamel Momo Hut. We started with an order of ten chicken momos. This was our first time trying the Nepali red sauce, and it was spicy! The brown sauce had more of a nutty vibe. Leandra was still hungry so we tried the pork, which was fattier – we both preferred the chicken. In both cases we went steamed instead of the fried or half-fried option. We had a nice elevated view of the street here, which made for some great people watching too.
After dinner we went for a beer at House of Beers. Located on the 2nd floor, they had open windows to the streets below. Leandra went for a dunkelweissen, and I got the witbier. Both beers were from Barahsinghe, and both were quite nice.
The next evening, after picking up our laundry nearby, we stopped in at BEER DHARA and shared a dunkelweissen. We also tried a peanut sadeko, which was a spicy mix of peanuts with cucumber, onions, garlic and other ingredients. Quite tasty! The owner and staff were very personable here too.
For dinner we walked around the corner from our hotel to Graveaty Restaurant and Bar. The momos were bigger here than at Momo Hut, plus this time we got the half fried variation, which had a nice texture. The playlist only had five songs and then reset, so we heard each three times 😂 As usual for Kathmandu, our waiter was very nice!
On our return to Nepal, Leandra noticed the Bhat-Bhateni Super-Store Bouddha across from the Hyatt on our taxi ride from the airport. This grocery store had an extensive selection, and we spent an hour exploring aisles of snacks, cookies, candies, slices, etc. We also found two small Nepali whiskies to bring home too.
