Lenz Winery
We are still members, and we love summer afternoons in their shaded courtyard.
- Friday, July 11 – A nice day with a breeze coming off vineyard, we brought my parents for a relaxed afternoon tasting. The Rose of Sharon’s were starting to bloom and the hydrangeas looked great. For the tasting there were half dozen new vintages of both white and red this year, so we took lots of notes. Compared to last year our server was new, and didn’t know much about the wines yet, plus the food menu was more expensive.
- Sunday, July 13 – After watching the men’s Wimbledon final we headed over for a bottle of the Brut. We let the staff know we were there and then waited a while for someone to come back. Once we ordered, everything was great. Our bottle of bubbles showed up with two branded flutes and our small bag of cookies. We sat in a different section than we normally do with backed chairs and enjoyed music from the kids birthday party next door. When we went in to pay we had a lovely conversation with the two staff, including samples of the old vines chardonnay and the Cabernet Sauvignon.
- Friday, July 25 – the horizon looked dark, so we decided to sit inside. This was a fortuitous decision since it was pouring 40 minutes later! We split a bottle of bubbles with friends to mark our final day in NY.
Suhru/Lieb
In previous years we had visited their location on the Main Road, so we wanted to check out their new location on Oregon Road. We scored outdoor seats overlooking the organic farm across the street on a late Friday afternoon and ordered a bottle of the Le Crescent sparkling (drier than expected, but lots of nice fruit) and marcona almonds. Michelle, our hostess, took great care of us. We left with a bottle of the still La Crescent.
One Woman Vineyards
It had been a number of years since we had visited One Woman, but our friends hang out there and convinced us to drop by on a Saturday. They treated us to quite the experience! We each had a customized tasting flight based on some non-wine related questions, then split a cheese board, desserts and at some point an Old Fashioned showed up for Leandra! All the while, we chatted and learned a new-to-us Canadian game, crokinole. We left with a bottle of the Sauvignon blanc and the 2013 Estate Merlot which was drinking beautifully.
French Tasting @ Vintage Mattituck – Our favorite wine shop in the area had a special tasting night of French wines. For $20pp (including a souvenir glass) we got to try 20+ wines, plus the fee was reimbursed if you purchased wine at the event – which we did!
North Fork Brewing
Still our favorite brewery on the North Fork, we stopped in on a Friday afternoon and the staff was friendly as always. Leandra got the Sir Franklin Meowington Scottish ale and I got the Interstellar Apricot Sour. Both were delicious. Still the most creative and consistently good brewery on the North Fork.
Montauk Distilling
While sitting at North Fork Brewing, we enjoyed the live music from next door, so we wandered over to check out the cocktails. My lemonade was a bit weak but ok, but Leandra’s painkilla was very nice. Unfortunately, we were overcharged and didn’t notice until later – so definitely check the charges carefully. Also, know that they charge a credit card fee, and they don’t mention that on the front of the menu.
Jamesport Farm Brewery
Under new management for 2025, we decided to try it out on a breezy afternoon. I wound up with one of the guest sours and none of the beers looked interesting to Leandra so she got a cider. We found a spot in the shade to relax and people watch. The burger food truck looked popular but we didn’t try it out.
