La Parrilla de San Lorenzo – A traditional Spanish restaurant, this space is massive with large brick arches, knick knacks, and icongraphy. While it wasn’t very busy when we arrived, they got livelier as the evening wore on.
Eric offered to drink red wine this evening and let me choose (literally at random from a list of <40 bottles) a Tarsus 2019 crianza from Ribera del Duero to go with our dinner. He ordered the steak medium and it came out barely rare. However, it was served on a sizzling plate – so he cut and cooked portions on the fly. I opted for two appetizers, the suckling lamb paté with raspberry sauce (very light and tasty) and the Catalan garlic soup – not super garlicky – broth with bread, bits of ham and a poached egg. We took our time finishing the bottle, no rush. A good experience.
RUGBY BAR THE CENTRAL – Due to intermittent internet in our hotel, we decided to head down the street a few blocks to watch the Uruguay v Italy match. We ordered a beer each which came with two portions of a very tasty tortilla tapa. 6€ all in was a great deal. Everyone seemed to know the owner, so it felt very much like a locals sort of place.
Empanadas Malvón – After our bar snack, we weren’t hungry enough for a full sit-down meal, so we decided to pick up empanadas for dinner to go with the rest of the wine we had open back in the room. Two smash burgers and one shredded pork. Tasty and the perfect amount of food.
Masa Madre for pastries, a brioche bun dusted with sugar for me and a chocolate croissant for Eric.
