NY Summer 2021: beaches

by | Aug 2, 2021 | Travel, USA Travel

In 2021 we made a concerted effort to get to a beach for sunset several times a week – while conditions didn’t always cooperate with great light, each visit was still worthwhile.

Bailie Beach

A great beach for walking, with sandy cliffs and piles of driftwood and shells, plus dog-friendly and uncrowded.

Mattituck Inlet

After storms most of the afternoon there was a short break just around sunset, and Mattituck Inlet had great light on my way to Bailie Beach.

Breakwater Beach

Separated from Bailie Beach by the Inlet, Breakwater is a much bigger and busier beach. We happened to go on one of the evenings when the smoke from Western US fires had drifted all the way to NY, which meant the sunset was mostly obscured on the horizon this year.

Kenney’s Beach

We enjoyed a nice walk in both directions of the beach here on a cooler afternoon.

Edward’s Beach

A nearly-private beach in Calverton, we had the good luck to visit on a night with less Western smoke and some beautiful colors in the sky.
