Helsinki 2012: where we stayed

GLO Hotel Kluuvi

Since this was a short trip we only stayed in one hotel, and we were very happy with our choice of Hotel GLO. Located between the two main shopping streets in downtown Helsinki and a 5 minute walk from the train station the hotel is well situated for exploring.

We arrived  from the airport around 10:30am fully expecting that a room would not be  available till the afternoon. Surprisingly, they had one ready, and we were unpacking on the 6th floor minutes later. Our room was near the elevator but separated by a glass wall and we never heard noise coming from it.

Design-wise the room was bright with a great contemporary feel that still managed to feel cozy. While the room had a pillar in the middle it served to separate the bed from a large desk area and wasn’t a problem for us. The bed was really comfortable, and combined with the darkness afforded by the thick curtains, it was really easy to take a nap on our first day!

The bathroom was large with a leather-like wall tile and a big tub. Given the room size the sink area could have been a little bigger, but overall it worked for us.

Our room rate included breakfast in their second floor restaurant that overlooks the shopping boulevard of Aleksanterinkatu. Served buffet-style it was a fairly typical European-style with several breads, boiled and scrambled eggs, muesli, cold cuts and cheese, etc. When we travel we fill up on breakfast and definitely enjoyed our breakfasts here.

The hotel lobby had lots color and cool Scandanavian chairs plus a bar that we didn’t try. Front desk staff were helpful with a restaurant recommendation and reservations. Overall, we were very happy with our choice and would return to GLO Hotel on future trips.

our room also came with a mascot but I wonder why it wasn’t a reindeer?
