Long Beach, California: where we stayed

Hyatt The Pike, Long Beach

Since a conference was the reason for the trip to Long Beach, we focused on hotels within a few minutes walk of the convention center. Now, a Hyatt is attached to conference center, but the reviews weren’t as nice as the reviews for it’s fellow Hyatt two blocks down the street that also included a breakfast credit for the same price. And TripAdvisor was correct on this one– the hotel had a nice modern feel and the staff were uniformly friendly and helpful throughout the stay.

Our room was quite spacious, with a really comfortable king bed, two desks, and the couch.

The bathroom amenities were unremarkable with the exception of the toothpaste that Leandra and I both really liked. While the room didn’t have a balcony, the rooftop level had a deck and small pool with nice loungers.

Normally we don’t eat in hotel restaurants due to price and a feeling that they aren’t that good. However, with the breakfast voucher I didn’t have to worry about the price, and in terms of quality, we were happily surprised with our breakfasts. The orange juice was particularly fresh and the french toast was greatly enjoyed (twice!). Overall, this hotel was a great choice for staying near the convention center and marina.
