first floor renovations, part IV

by | Nov 18, 2011 | House

The downstairs bathroom has been slowly coming together. The walls needed to be completely redone as the paint was coming off because I didn’t properly prime it after tearing off all the wallpaper in 2005. Whoops.

the gutted half bathroom
the bathroom shares the same horrible sub-floor as the rest of the kitchen area

Eric helped me scrape off the peeling areas of paint and after the new floor went in, I finished the spackling, priming and painting.

new low-flush toilet and bamboo flooring

We had to wait a bit for the flooring guy to come back and nail down the quarter round after we put in the baseboards behind the sink area. Instead of trying to match the old oak, we bought primed wood, so I am painting all the trim white. Everything gets a fresh coat of paint in here!

We also replaced the old bronze light fixtures and hardware with brushed nickel items. The last remaining item in the bathroom is the new sink and cabinet… getting all of it installed properly should be an interesting challenge (for Eric)! :)
