day trip to Haarlem

We were getting a bit worn out walking all over Amsterdam, so for a change of scenery we hopped a local train for a 15 minute ride to Haarlem near the coast.

Haarlem windmill - De Adriaan
De Adriaan windmill – open for tours of course!

Grote Markt panorama
Grote Markt – we sat here (Cafe Brinkmaan) for a panini and beers to rest our tired feet.

Even though the shops were not open on Sunday, we enjoyed wandering the side streets and admiring all the plantings and store windows.

most of the doorways were overflowing with potted plants

so peaceful...
yet another charming canal photo

Eric also had his third favorite beer ever while sitting outside listening to live jazz- the Brouwerij ‘t IJ trippel (behind the Belgian de Garre trippel and OMER). A highly recommended low-key side trip from Amsterdam!
