Peggys Cove
While we did enjoy staying put for a few days in Halifax, there was one more drive we wanted to take near the end of our trip. Eric had a slow afternoon the day before we left, so we headed down to Peggys Cove via the Lighthouse Trail. After our experiences with the other Nova Scotia “scenic” trails, we weren’t expecting too much and we didn’t get disappointed.
The town itself is quaint and scenic and the lighthouse (which is now a post office… hmm, where have I seen that before?) is just as lovely as the photos portray it. I imagine that there are other lighthouses on this trail, but none that we saw between Halifax and Peggys Cove.
We hiked around the rocks for a while enjoying the sunshine and watched as the tide came in and the waves became more intense. Photos from our short trip are here.
No commentsstill here, honest!
Hi everyone! (waves)
I am finally sitting on my own comfy couch after several weeks of being on-the-move. The last three weeks have been an absolute whirlwind.
My last day of work was June 20, and 12 hours later I was leaving for the airport to fly to Nova Scotia for a week with Eric. We got delayed coming home, so I only had about 38 hours before I drove up to Chicago with pup on July 1/2. Eric flew out on Friday morning and after two days of cleaning and tossing garbage, all three of us made the marathon drive home on Sunday, July 8.
Eric wasn’t altogether thrilled about missing the men’s Wimbledon final to drive the new car back with me, but we listened to it on XM radio and he was generally a good sport. (thanks, sweetie!)
I am currently enjoying some time off and the last few days have seen me doing a ton of laundry, grocery shopping, and trying to find permanent homes for the many things we brought back with us.
While in Chicago, I seemed to have entered a “no-internet-zone,” so now that I am back at home I’ll have photos up of our shiny new ride as well as a few more posts about Halifax soon.

While Eric was attending sessions at the genetics conference, I spent my mornings walking around downtown Halifax, both enjoying the weather and figuring out where some good restaurants were.
I walked along the harbor every morning, and the second day provided me with a clear and sunny view.

One of the highlights was the public gardens—a square block of statues, flowers, and manicured lawns in central Halifax. It’s a relatively quiet escape from the heavy traffic (both foot and car) of Spring Garden Street. The only unusual thing was a sign clearly stating that jogging was not allowed in the park.

Eric had a little extra time one afternoon, so we walked over to the citadel to explore the grounds. We arrived in time to see the changing of the guards, but didn’t feel like shelling out over $22 for both of us to see the interior of the fort.

A person could definitely see the downtown area of Halifax in just one or two days.

Leandra and Riesling left this morning on their females-only road trip to Chicago.

I’m not sure how useful a navigator pup will be but those ears are probably picking up some kind of satellite signals.
The picture below tells the story of Saturday night when Leandra had repacked her bags just 24 hours after getting home. Riesling was not amused.

Poor Riesling spent most of the evening and this morning watching our every move - she wasn’t about to let us leave without her this time. Instead, I’m staying behind and it’s her turn to travel. Good luck ladies!
