taking a much needed break from painting

On Wednesday I finished painting the corners and edging in the spare bedroom and last night the first coat of paint went on. It looked a tad streaky which is no doubt a direct result of my tendancy to use too little paint on the roller so a fine mist of paint doesn’t fly everywhere when I apply it. The poor ventilation and paint fumes are also a positive influence. So, it may need a quick second coat.

However!

Tonight we will be eating pizza and watching an outdoor movie with some friends and tomorrow will be spent watching tennis and soccer. No time for painting! I may (or may not!) have photos up by the end of the weekend of the newly decorated room. :)

farewell

When we got the Canon Rebel XT last month, we knew we should sell the Olympus C-8080 we had purchased just over a year ago. We had it listed locally on craigslist for a week or two, but no nibbles… so we listed it on eBay. After fielding several questions from various bidders about where we bought it, who from, how many photos we took—a local guy won the auction. He came buy to pick it up yesterday, saving him shipping costs and saving us me a trip to the post office. We made back a good portion of what the camera cost us originally and it’s gone to a good home!

scenes from the blue ridge parkway

I’ve finished editing Eric’s shots from his trip to Virginia last week. Thankfully I have him home for a while and I can take a break from editing photos and perhaps, oh, finish painting the spare bedroom.

first of the gladiolus’

We have many plants blooming in our gardens, including the tomatoes (finally!), but these were a pleasant surprise as we were not expecting the numerous bulbs we planted last year to come back. We have close to 100 glads total and the first two are now blooming in our living room.

stupid “whimsical” stencils

Let’s just say that we do not share the taste of the people we bought our house from. From the striped wallpaper in every bathroom to quilted valances, we’ve been slowly removing all trace of the previous owners. After removing the huge shelf and window hardware, I finally tackled the ugly country-ish birdhouse stencil in the spare bedroom. It took four (4!) coats of primer to completely hide the poster paint. I am painting the room the same color as three of the walls in our living room—atmospheric. It’s still blue, just a shade or two brighter.

Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia

I’m in Sweet Briar, VA, attending a Computational Biology workshop. I had some scheduled free time this afternoon so I headed up to the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway, where I revisited two waterfalls and hiked to a new one. Hopefully we’ll get the full pics up this weekend, but here are a two representatives:

They don’t call it the Blue Ridge for nothing…
