Day 4
getting to the Grand Canyon and Bright Angel Point | North Kaibab Trail, Point Imperial and Cape Royal

Day 1/2 | Day 3 | Day 5/6

Here is a shot of the actual composition of the North Kaibab Trail. Red Sand. Not pictured is the numerous piles of mule dung we passed.

Our shoes and legs were filthy after this 1.5 mile roundtrip hike.

We made it as far as the Cococino overlook, pictured above. The view was absolutely stunning and completely worth the 1,000 foot climb we made to get back out of the canyon.

We had plenty of time to make the 20 mile drive out to both Point Imperial and Cape Royal for what was promised to be some of the best views on the North Rim. Unfortuntely, I got altitude sickness about halfway there, so Eric spent some time photographing wildflowers while I got my nausea under check.

Feeling much better after a short break, we took a short stroll out to Point Imperial for this fantastic view. That spire in the foreground is Mt Hayden.

Angels Window can be viewed from the trail that takes you out to the Cape Royal overlook. As you can see from the people on top of the arch, it also offers great views of the canyon below.

A view of Wotans Throne from Cape Royal.

A panoramic view of the Cape Royal overlook.

We wound up on yet another scenic route to our hotel for the night in Marble Canyon. We literally came around a bend and saw the vermillion cliffs right in front of us. They seemed to rise up out of the plains and glowed beautifully in the late afternoon sun.

We had a long drive still ahead of us as our hotel was on the far side of those cliffs...
