august 31 ![]() -link to this day- @ 5p | 2 cents... ![]() I'd like to send out my condolences to those folks devastated by Hurricane Katrina. We visited New Orleans in April 2002. It's going to be a long time before it looks like it did when we were there. Our prayers especially go out to our friends in Athens whose parents will be displaced for the next few weeks. august 30 ![]() -link to this day- @ 11a | 2 cents... We still don't have a home phone, but a new router is supposedly on it's way. Our freshman discussion group went fine yesterday. It's never easy to sit around with eleven perfect strangers and discuss the implications of racism... Last night we attended the talk Tim Tyson gave on campus about his book and the history of civil rights in the South. Very interesting. We didn't get home until almost 8:30 and were starved, but I didn't feel like cooking since I had to prepare baked ziti for a potluck this evening and prep the food for fajitas on Wednesday night. So, Eric suggested pigs in a blanket! Low-fat crescent rolls wrapped around Healthy Choice hot dogs with a thin slice of sharp cheddar. Yum, quick and tasty. august 27 ![]() -link to this day- @ 1p | 2 cents... Well, we tried to go to a Durham Bulls game last night as we have free vouchers to redeem, but we were stuck in traffic for a half hour four blocks from the park. I sent Eric to get the tickets while I found parking but our friends (who arrived well before us) said that there was only standing room available even when they got there. So, it was on to Blockbuster for a night in instead. (The Bulls wound up losing 7-1 anyway). We reluctantly rented Alexander and after about 30 minutes or so I knew we were in for a long night. I generally like Greek history and mythology but there was way too much monologuing in this film. Plus, Angelina's Russian accent was a bit out of place. In other news, our router is down so we have no phone at the moment. We will certainly be using up our minutes this month on the cell phones. Currently I am working on some photos that have been neglected, primarily some botanical garden photos and pics of Eric's trip to Cold Spring Harbor a few months back. august 25 ![]() -link to this day- @ 8p | 2 cents... Photos of the new TV below! ![]() @ 4p | 2 cents... ![]() Green Day was pretty good, although we were a little disappointed about the pace of the concert. They couldn't just play a few songs in a row... instead the energy was constantly interrupted for silly audience participation gimmicks. I remembered this about the last Green Day concert we attended in Athens but we were hoping for better this time around. Sadly, I don't think we'll be getting tickets for their next concert. You may have noticed the lovely TV that has been added to our "new to us" section on the front page... Amazingly, it's fits perfectly into our current entertainment center! No sawing furniture or extra purchases required. Pictures up soon. Oh, and we are now officially addicted to Discovery HD Theater. august 20 ![]() -link to this day- @ 1p | 2 cents... I've been doing a little updating around here... I added a new recipe (finally) and put up photos from Eric's trip to Blacksburg and our trip to Athens for Casey and Anna's wedding. I've also redesigned the garden section of the website and hopefully the botanical garden photos are a little easier to browse through now. Last night we had yummy bison burgers at Ted's then saw DiG! outside at the Raleigh art museum. We were up early this morning to play tennis before it got too hot, but we were done after an hour of unrelenting sunshine. Eric is currently researching an upcoming purchase of a 50" DLP television. Football season is almost here! august 15 ![]() -link to this day- @ 11a | 2 cents... ![]() We are back from our weekend adventure to and from Athens to attend a wedding and visit with some friends. Some photos are up at Flickr, and I should have the wedding photos as well as some Blacksburg, VA photos up later this week. I am super-busy at work, so thankfully I haven't had much time to dwell on the fact that I have a dentist appointment this afternoon to get two small cavities filled. Ick. august 11 ![]() -link to this day- @ 4p | 2 cents... Happy birthday to me! :) To see the very thoughtful gift Eric had delivered today, go here. Hopefully the clear skies will remain that way so I can see the meteors tonight. update: my friend Dave and I sat outside for an hour and saw nothing. :( august 7 ![]() -link to this day- @ 11p | 2 cents... I'm back from Madison and relaxing with a glass of red wine while sorting through some photos of my trip. Eric left for Virginia this afternoon, so I am on my own for a few days until we drive down to Athens for a wedding next weekend. I also updated our garden page with photos Eric took a week ago. |
