Well, we have a lot of updates to mention. First off my gram was given her own room yesterday in the care facility. We are excited that she'll have her own furniture and be able to watch the Cubs games without her roommate complaining about the television. :)

Two weekends ago we visited Callaway Gardens for the first time. We dropped off some of our plants for friends in Atlanta, so we figured we'd check out the place since it's a 3 hour drive straight from our place. While we enjoyed the butterfly enclosure and the Sibley Center, we were disappointed in the azelea bowl walk and most of the other trails. The biggest surprise was the fact that you had to drive to get from one place to another because it was several miles to walk between exhibit areas. I have never been in and out of my car so many times at a botanical garden. Turns out this place isn't so much a botanical garden as gift shops surrounded by nature. We're glad we saw the place, but I would never recommend it to anyone.

Two days later, Eris left for his interview in Washington DC. He enjoyed the visit, walked several miles and we'll see what comes of that in a few weeks.

This past weekend, I was in Savannah for a girl's trip celebrating a friend's wedding in October. A bachelorette party in a scenic setting. We had a great time visiting Bonaventure Cemetery, the Sidewalk Arts Festival and taking a boat trip around Little Tybee Island. We stayed up late, ate some wonderful food, and talked.

My first 5K race since September is in three days and I feel prepared. I know I can run three miles without stopping, so now I just have to do that around campus on Saturday. Wish me luck!

Photos from Callaway Gardens, Washington DC and Savannah will be up soon.

My trip to St. Petersburg was sad, but went very well. My gram was pretty out of it when I went to visit her on Saturday afternoon, but I persisted and continued to visit her twice a day for at least an hour until I left on Tuesday morning. She was gradually improving each time I saw her and I found out yesterday that she told my mom (without being asked) that she was so happy that I came all that way to visit her. :D We are all hoping she gets her strength and spirit back soon.

Eric and I spent yesterday judging high school science fair projects from 10am until 4pm. To unwind, after dinner Eric suggested a sunset walk around Sandy Creek Nature Preserve. I sprayed myself with OFF and we walked around for a little while enjoying the cool air and lack of human sounds. While hiking around the clay pit lake, we heard a huge splash in the center of the lake and realized it was a beaver! Neither of us had ever seen a beaver in the wild, so we were quite happy about the discovery. While watching him paddle around for a bit, we also witnessed a blue crane catching a large fish for its dinner. Exercise and nature, gotta love it!

Last week I decided to take a trip down to Florida for Easter to visit with my gram. She's been in an extended care facility for over two months and I think it's important to see her since it looks like she'll be staying in Florida permanently. When we move, we know it won't be any closer to Florida, so I'd like to see her again before things get too hectic here. Unfortunately, Eric won't be joining me since he has a lot of work to do to graduate in a few months. My mom surprised me by flying down earlier than her expected arrival of April 18, so we'll spend Sunday and Monday together with gram before I drive back to Georgia. This trip is bookended by a concert on Thursday night and a chem video shoot on Tuesday morning. Not a lot of wiggle room for travel.

For those of you interested, I have finally started keeping track of my workouts in a journal fashion. I signed up for a 5K on May 1 and am looking to complete a triathlon by the end of the year.

The South Africa photos and day-by-day journal are now online. If you have the time, please read the journal... it will give you a good sense of how we spent our time on this trip and furthermore, a lot of work went into it! :)

In other news, Eric had his root canal yesterday and everything went very smoothly. He's taking a god-awful amount of Advil at the doctor's request, and the diagnostic report looks good. He has two appointments for the crown fitting and placement in May.

I am gearing up for my Savannah trip at the end of the month with a few girlfriends and Eric is finalizing plans to fly up to Maryland for an interview in a few weeks. Hopefully we will find out soon where we'll be living in August.
